GUIDELINES FOR PASSPORT APPLICANTS

 

Under  current law, applicants must be Ghanaian nationals, and evidence of Ghanaian citizenship will be required in the form of an expired passport, Ghanaian Birth Certificate or citizenship ID card.

Applicants holding only Ghanaian Birth Certificates will further undergo an interview to ascertain their true Ghanaian nationality.

Applications for missing passports must be supported with a sworn affidavit with the HIGH COURT SEAL from Ghana indicating passport number if possible, how the passport got missing, place and date of issue as well as the bio data of the applicant.

 

  • REQUIREMENTS
  • An applicant for a new passport must duly complete a passport application form and return it with two (2) passport-size pictures with only white background (taken on full face) together with other relevant documents, e.g. Birth Certificates, expired/ current passport,  citizenship ID card etc. All supporting documents must be submitted in original (NOT PHOTOCOPY). Such original documents will be returned to the applicant.
  • Where applicants have never acquired a passport, the affidavit must clearly say so. The affidavit must then be sent to the legal bureau of the ministry of foreign affairs and regional integration for endorsement
  • An application for a new passport may be submitted six (6) months to the date of expiry of the current passport or when the pages of the passport are all endorsed with visas/ stamps.
  • An application for a new passport to replace a missing/ lost passport shall be accompanied by a police report, clearly stating the passport number and the date of issue.
  • The Embassy no longer endorses Ghanaian passports. In case of change of name, profession, etc., applicant is to apply for a new passport.

PROXY PASSPORTS

 

 It is not permitted by law for Ghanaians resident outside Ghana to acquire Ghana passports through friends and relatives in Ghana. Such PROXY passports will be seized by the German authorities.

 Any proxy passport that comes into the possession of the Embassy shall immediately be confiscated and cancelled.
