Guidelines for Passport Applicants

Under current law, applicants must be Ghanaian nationals, and evidence of Ghanaian citizenship will be required in the form of an expired passport, Ghanaian Birth Certificate or citizenship ID card.

Applicants holding only Ghanaian Birth Certificates will further undergo an interview to ascertain their true Ghanaian nationality.

Applications for missing passports must be supported with a sworn affidavit with the HIGH COURT SEAL from Ghana indicating passport number if possible, how the passport got missing, place and date of issue as well as the bio data of the applicant.

It is not permitted by law for Ghanaians resident outside Ghana to acquire Ghana passports through friends and relatives in Ghana. The German authorities will seize such PROXY passports.

Any proxy passport that comes into the possession of the Embassy shall immediately be confiscated and cancelled.
